Whitney Houston's death has rocked the world, and tomorrow, she'll be laid to rest in her home state of New Jersey, where flags were flying at half staff in memory of the phenomenal singer. If you want to catch the services, they will be shown live on CNN, beginning at 11 a.m. (EST).
Whitney's funeral is actually being called a "home going," a celebration of her life. The home going is expected to be a star studden event of sorts, with celebrities lining up to pay their last respects and to remember Houston, who died last Saturday. As a child of the 80s, I remember well the first time I heard Whitney Houston. And I was hooked. She was a pop diva of epic proportions, and her songs were very much the soundtrack of my teen years. It's still so heartbreaking to realize that she's gone. New information about her death continues to surface almost hourly, with some of the latest reports indicating that Houston had fallen off the wagon in recent months. One source says that "The last three months of Whitney's life were truly tragic." Expect new 'revelations' in coming weeks. This is a huge, huge story and it's not going away anytime soon.
I'll be tuning in to see Whitney Houston's funeral tomorrow morning. I will try very hard to remember the Whitney I first loved so many years ago. Focusing on the negatives does no good now. Whitney is gone.
Celebrities expected to attend the Whitney Houston funeral include the likes of Aretha Franklin (Whitney's godmother), Stevie Wonder, Kevin Costner (her Bodyguard co-star), Ray J and sister Brandy, and Oprah Winfrey.
Here's hoping that Whitney's "home going" at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark is a service to remember all that was brilliant about Whitney Houston. RIP, Whitney, and hopefully you've finally found some peace for your troubled soul.
